Below are some questions people often have. The chances are good that you have a question that is not addressed below or anywhere on the site. Please feel free to send your question in an email to ioccmemphis@gmail.com or schedule a free 15-minute consultation.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND COUNSELING?
Counseling and coaching are both supportive, intentional spaces designed to help you move through challenges—but they work in different ways.
- Counseling tends to look backward, using an introspective lens to explore patterns, pain, or past experiences. It’s focused on emotional healing, insight, and behavior change.
- Coaching looks forward, focusing on growth, potential, and helping you reach specific goals. It’s more action-oriented and doesn’t explore the past as deeply.
In short:
Therapy explores the “why.”
Coaching focuses on the “how.”
Both are confidential, safe, and held with care.
CAN I USE MY HEALTH INSURANCE?
I do not bill insurance directly. However, I can provide a monthly superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
I’m currently an in-network provider for many plans through:
- Aetna
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Cigna
- United Healthcare
No—I do not prescribe medication.
Only a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, or medical doctor can do that. I’m happy to collaborate with your provider if needed.
WILL COUNSELING OR COACHING FIX MY PARTNER?
No. Our work together is focused on you—your growth, healing, and patterns.
Your progress may influence your partner, but therapy won’t “fix” anyone. We all have our own work to do, and I focus on helping you do yours.
Glad you’re ready.
